Dona (Thulagi) Glacial Lake Monitoring

About the Dona (Thulagi) Glacial Lake

Dona (Thulagi) Glacial Lake is also known as Dona Tal, is located in western Nepal at an altitude of 4,050 meters and at 28°29.24′N latitude and 84°29.17′E longitude. Situated at the end of the Thulagi Glacier, the lake is a key source for the Dona Khola, which flows into the Marsyangdi River. The glacier itself is approximately 4.5 kilometers long and is covered in debris. Scientific studies and satellite imagery have shown that its surface area and water volume have increased substantially due to the rapid melting and retreat of the Thulagi Glacier.
